I was really nervous going to the pathology service, I have never had blood taken before because I hate needles. I handed the pathology request form that the doctor gave me to the receptionist.  While I was waiting I tried to read some torn old magazine to distract me from the thought of a sharp piece of steel puncturing my arm and vacuum tube becoming bloated with my precious red stuff.
 
The nurse was very nice and she managed to relax me.
She filled a few tubes and it didn’t hurt hardly at all. It just goes to show you how your fears can cripple you. I think I am going to become a  blood donor because it wasn’t bad at all. Plus it is a good way to help others, I am already an organ donor, so why not.

Discuss briefly the biochemical basis of the blood tests ordered by Elisa’s doctor; discuss the role of enzymes/ proteins in the assessment of liver function.

Discuss the results of Elisa’ blood sample taken on the day of her first visit to the doctor and then one week later; compare them with the normal values.
 
The biochemistry behind all these enzymes is a bit complex [too many details don’t you think?]. I have made a summary of the role of these enzymes/proteins in the following section “Reviewing My Notes
 
The doctor asked to have blood samples taken on my first visit and one week later; I wonder why. Maybe I cannot answer this question yet and will have to wait a bit longer. This is all a bit stressful!
