The concentration of solutions can be expressed in several different ways, each one useful for a particular application. Every expression of concentration however is a ratio of amount of solute ÷ amount of solvent. Some of the more common methods of expressing concentration include percentage, molarity osmolarity and tonicity. They are described on the following pages.
