In the remaining part of this practical we consider one of the more commonly used physiological solutions, the phosphate-bufferred Holman solution. When preparing Holman solutions it is common practice to prepare stock solutions of the appropriate chemicals which can then be mixed together to produce the final solution. The following table shows the stock solutions frequently used for making up phosphate-buffered Holman solution.

Solution 1 1.40% NaCl
Solution 2 0.19% KCl
Solution 3 1.85% CaCl2.2H2O
Solution 4 0.25% MgSO4.7H2O
Solution 5 2.1% NaHCO3
Solution 6 30 mM phosphate buffer
